Why are you running for school board?
I am running for the School Board to focus on early intervention, family and community engagement, creating a supportive environment for our students, staff, and families. My experience in public health, policy, and leadership has prepared me to address literacy challenges and ensure equitable access to resources. I’m committed to open, honest conversations, supporting our educators, and partnering with families so every student has the opportunity to thrive.

How will you use your experiences and background to approach your role as a member of the school board?
My background in public health, social services, workforce development, policy and advocacy, postsecondary education, youth mental health first aid, and community engagement equips me to serve effectively on the school board. My leadership on national and local boards has provided experience in policy development, budget oversight, and stakeholder engagement.
Which do you believe is more important for achieving higher academic achievement: greater funding or better reforms? Briefly explain.
Reform without funding can only go so far. Lasting change requires the resources to train educators, develop programs, and support students. Without proper investment, even the best ideas may struggle to achieve their full potential. Meaningful, effective reform happens when we pair great ideas with the necessary funding to bring them to life.
Name 1 or 2 changes or policies you will support that will raise the academic achievement of all students in your district.
I’ll support policies that strengthen early intervention and literacy programs, ensuring students receive support before falling behind. I’ll also advocate for more community and family engagement initiatives to create a supportive learning environment. By focusing on early support and meaningful connections, we can set all students on a path to success.
What changes should be made at schools to make the classroom a more effective environment for maximizing learning and instruction (teaching)?
We need consistent, fair discipline policies that focus on holding our students accountable for their actions. It’s just as important to hold parents accountable by giving them the tools and support they need to stay involved in their child’s education. Building stronger connections between schools and families creates a supportive environment for both the teachers and students that are affected by student’s disruption.
Many educators say that not all parents are engaged enough with their children's education.
How can the school board create policies that help forge a closer relationship and involvement among parents, their children and educators?
The school board can implement policies that will encourage parent involvement and make it easier and more accessible. This includes flexible meeting times, virtual options, and community events that welcome families. Offering workshops on supporting student learning and providing regular updates on student progress can empower parents to stay engaged. By encouraging open communication and genuine partnerships between parents, educators, and the district, we can create a strong support system for every student. I am a firm believer that education starts at home.
Recent federal executive orders for K-12 schools prohibit schools from promoting gender and radical ideologies. Another order prohibits boys from girls' sports and restrooms. Schools that don't comply could risk federal funds.
How do you believe the school board should respond to these orders?
The school board’s role is to prioritize the well-being and success of every student while ensuring compliance with federal and state laws. We need policies that respect individual rights and create an inclusive, supportive environment for all students. Open, respectful dialogue with families and the community is essential to address concerns and find solutions that align with our district’s values and legal obligations. Protecting federal funding while supporting all students must remain a priority.
